The Work
Site prep is where a build either gets set up right or starts behind. A properly prepped site means your foundation contractor isn't fighting a bad grade, your framing crew isn't working around drainage problems, and your finished home doesn't start settling in year two because the soil underneath was never properly compacted.
We work closely with homeowners, builders, and general contractors across western NC to get sites ready on schedule. We know what the next crew needs when they pull up, and we don't leave until the site is genuinely ready for them.
Removing trees, brush, and debris to open the site for grading and construction.
Establishing the initial elevation and slope of the site before construction begins.
Creating a compacted, level pad at the correct elevation for the foundation.
Setting up driveway cuts, equipment staging areas, and material laydown zones.
Local Knowledge
Site prep in western NC isn't the same as site prep in the flatlands. Elevation changes, rocky subsoil, heavy clay, and unpredictable weather all factor into how we approach a job. We've been prepping sites across this region our whole careers — we know what to expect before we ever turn a wheel.
Hillside lots often require significant cut and fill before any build can start
Flat piedmont sites move fast — compaction and drainage are the focus
Rocky subsoil can slow site prep — we have the equipment to handle it
Steep mountain terrain demands careful bench cutting and erosion management
Short build seasons mean efficient site prep is critical to stay on schedule
Growing residential demand — we handle volume without cutting corners
Mixed terrain from valley floors to ridgelines requires adaptable approach
Granite outcrops require assessment before committing to a build pad location
Burke County's rocky subsoil is something we encounter regularly on new build sites outside Morganton. Once you get below the topsoil layer, you can hit ledge rock that changes the entire plan for a building pad. We assess for this early and work around it or through it — no surprises for the builder when they arrive.

A Recent Job
A custom home builder we work with regularly called us on a 1.8-acre lot outside Morganton — wooded, sloped, and with a tight schedule. The foundation crew was scheduled for day four and the lot hadn't been touched.
Day one we cleared the timber and brush. Day two we cut the rough grade and identified a rock ledge along the northeast corner that would have caused problems for the foundation if it hadn't been addressed. We adjusted the pad location by twelve feet, which put it on better soil and actually improved the home's orientation on the lot.
Day three was finish grade and compaction testing. The foundation crew showed up on schedule to a site that was ready. That's the job.
